Tumblers in the Glass Sphere by Crooty Tumblers in the Glass Sphere by Crooty
This is an illustration of Ship of Magic, by Robin Hobb.

◊Spoiler warning◊ for those who haven't read so far.

One of the treasures found on Treasure Beach by Kennit (actually Gankis) at the very beginning of the Liveship Traders trilogy.

The description is on page 9 of the UK paperback edition, in the first chapter (called "Of Priests and Pirates").

Photoshop, 12-ish hours.

Yes, the hand is based on a photo of my hand (but it's not the photo, it's redrawn).

I remember when he found this. I love the lighting and the reflection a lot. If you want a real critique of the work though, I think that you figures could use a lil more perspective. The detailing is awesome but there is something just a lil off about how they look. Great choice of content.

Keep it up!!

They do look a little 2-dimensional compared to the hand and sphere, that's right!

Interesting, I never really thought about what the sphere actually looked like.... I like your interpretation.

This is very nice! I like the color or the sky and I love the way the hand is reflected in the glass ball.

Coincidentily, I also made a drawing of this scene, and I think it's very funny you picked the same! But mine didn't work very well. Maybe I'll put it up soon, though.
