Poe Project: 2009 Calendar v.2 by Crooty Poe Project: 2009 Calendar v.2 by Crooty
Here is a second version (and hopefully the last one, but I'm still waiting on feedback from my "father-in-law", so if you want to make suggestions, there is still time... :frustrated: :P) of the final layout for the Poe Project!

Here are the elements and references:
:bulletgreen: A pencil portrait of Edgar Allan Poe (might be flipped, but this one was done after a painting, not a daguerreotype, so actually it shouldn't);
:bulletgreen: A haunted mansion, with red windows referring to both The Fall of the House of Usher and The Masque of Red Death;
:bulletgreen: A black cat and a raven, referring to the tale and poem of the same names;
:bulletgreen: A creepy dead tree, as in The Fall of the House of Usher;
:bulletgreen: A moon with whirlwind (The Fall of the House of Usher) transforming into a whirlpool, and a man riding a barrel, illustrating A Descent into the Maelström;
:bulletgreen: A flipped manuscript of The Spirits of the Dead (very light overlay);
:bulletgreen: A goldbug (which will be in special colour-changing ink), as reference to The Gold-Bug;
:bulletgreen: Finally, Poe's signature, birth and death dates, the logo of company for which I'm doind this, and the year of the calendar.

I would like to thank my boy-friend Mat:heart:, and also (in no particular order):

Your feedback and support during the various steps of the project mean a lot. :hug:

Now :fingerscrossed:, all! I will get this job! Right? :D

Crooty, my lack of comments doesn't mean I haven't been supporting your effort... I just haven't been on dA in ages. This is really amazing. You should be truly proud of this piece... and if you don't get chosen... well they are morons.

Crooty this is awesome! I think you will get the job, it's a pretty good layout! In an absolutely personal note, perhaps I wold like it with less colours a bit better, but that's surely just me!
You're welcome, thanks to mention me like that, it's been my pleasure to coment your work! :hug:

Yeah, the guy on the barrel does look better, it never bothered me but this way, I think it's cause he's lower in frame, the maelstrom looks much more threatening, as if the weight of it all could come crashing down on him any second.

Henrik, thank you again for your helpful comments. This morning I gave the company the documents... I'm feeling kind of empty now. :P
I hope they send the results soon...

I don't know why but barrel man really works in this new spot. Perhaps because it looks like he is about to race under the ramp leading to the door making it look much like a bridge over the maelstrom.

Did I tell you how much I like the house against the maelstrom background? Great job, Crooty. Fingers crossed for you!

Ah yes! Somehow this version works much better! Even the raven doesn't "bother" me so much anymore! Perfect!
Oh and I just noticed that in the end you managed to open the door a crack! Nicely spooky!

Yes, still got all my fingers crossed! When will you know if you have the job?
