Girl on a Dragon by Crooty Girl on a Dragon by Crooty
This is an illustration of Assassin's Quest, by Robin Hobb.

◊Spoiler warning◊ for those who haven't read so far.

Fifth and last illustration for this month's theme on a retake on the Girl on a Dragon.

The description is at page 692 of the UK paperback edition of Assassin's Quest, in a chapter called "The Quarry".

I intended to submit a coloured version of the one I submitted last December, but then decided I wasn't happy with the dragon's posture, so I started over.

Photoshop, several hours (probably around 12-15ish).
Details can be found here and here.

EDIT: following :iconterrance-b-funderful:'s advice, I tried and made the dragon's wings larger.

Really nice, and I like the wing change! It makes it seem all the more possible. And the close ups you posted really highlight how much love and work you put into this! :D

It looks a lot cooler in the preview on John's site so I suppose a lot of detail is lost when it's viewed from afar.

I love the background and the dragon's pose, it looks like it's really struggling.
The wings look at most half the size they'd need to be for the creature to fly though. Both the dragon and the girl, especially the girl look really smooth, maybe they should be a bit grittier. A bit more shading you know? They look sort of flat. The scales look really cool so I don't know exactly what it is that irks me. Of course, broad daylight is never very forgiving to anything artificial.

Actually I'm going to try and resize its wings. :P

I know what you mean by the smooth looks that make it unreal... I think it comes from my fright of details... and of course my lazyness!

I'll post some close-ups if you like!

You're right about the wings! :omg:
Well I guess I'll change that if I ever do another version, but I don't think I'll correct them on this particular one, I'm a bit bored with this picture to tell you the truth. :P

Thanks again for your feedback!
